Witnessing the Health Crisis: Reflections from a Functional Practitioner

As a functional practitioner passionate about longevity and overall well-being, my recent visit to the USA has left me deeply concerned. The magnitude of everything in America, from the buildings to the streets and even the size of its people, was shocking. However, what struck me the most was the alarming state of health prevalent throughout the population. In this blog post, I want to share my observations and shed light on the epidemic of obesity and diabetes that seems to have engulfed the nation.

The Scale of the Problem

The first thing that caught my attention was the sheer number of individuals, of all ages, relying on wheelchairs and mobility scooters in USA. It was disheartening to witness the limitations imposed on people due to their weight and related health issues. The prevalence of morbid obesity was astounding, and it became evident that this was not simply a case of isolated incidents but rather a widespread problem.

Fast Food Culture

One cannot overlook the abundance of fast-food options available on every street corner. Convenience seems to take precedence over health, and this has undoubtedly contributed to the current health crisis. The easy availability and affordability of such food make it difficult for individuals to make healthier choices when out and about. The impact of this fast-food culture on obesity rates is undeniable.

Lack of Raw Food Options

For someone like me, who values the nourishment and benefits of raw food, finding suitable options while exploring Disneyland for example was a challenge. The prevalence of processed and cooked foods overshadowed the availability of fresh, raw alternatives. This scarcity further highlights the need for a shift towards healthier dietary choices and a greater emphasis on nutritious, unprocessed foods.

The Epidemic of Obesity and Diabetes

It is evident that the USA is facing an epidemic of obesity and diabetes. The UK is the next most affected nation!

The consequences of these conditions extend far beyond physical appearance and impact every aspect of an individual's life. The strain on healthcare systems, reduced quality of life, and increased risk of other chronic diseases are just a few of the many consequences of this crisis. It is high time that we address the root causes and implement measures to reverse this dangerous trend.

In conclusion my visit to the USA has brought to the forefront the urgent need for change in our approach to health and well-being. The scale of the obesity and diabetes epidemic is alarming, and it is essential that we take action to reverse this trend.

Encouraging healthier food choices, promoting physical activity, and educating individuals about the importance of nutrition are just a few steps we can take towards a healthier future. Let us come together to prioritise our well-being and ensure a better quality of life for generations to come!
